The Power Of Teamwork- Burn The Fat, Feed The Muscle Challenge

couple running at the beachMany of us have one thing on their minds before they decide to start a fat loss plan- do I have what it takes to finish this on my own?

It doesn’t  matter how self-directed, self-motivated and self-starting you are, finding the right team or partner is a sure-fire way to make sure you not only stick to your commitments, but always perform at your best! And it doesn’t hurt that you’ll have more fun doing it, right?

If you’ve been reading some of my posts you probably know that I use the Burn the fat, Feed the muscle fat loss system and that I am a very big fan of it. I recently told you about a challenge, specially made for the Burn the fat inner circle (the member’s area) which is called the million steps challenge. Now there is a new challenge about to start (boy do they work hard for their members!). These challenges are used to help people all over the world to commit to one very important thing- Be fit and healthy!

The ultimate challenge is called The Body Composition Transformation Challenge and it is only once per year, with the grand price being a vacation to a luxurious resort at the tropical beaches of Maui. This is a great challenge, but it is not the topic of the post. The real topic is the newest Burn The Fat, Feed The Muscle Event- the partner challenge.

What you need to do is convince a sibling, friend, co-worker or spouse to join you on a quest to a better, stronger and healthier body. And if you don’t really have anyone in mind, you shouldn’t worry, because you can always find someone in the challenge forums. Isn’t that a great way to find like minded people?

I will mention some of the many ways that having a partner will benefit your efforts, but before we go to them, I would just like to let you know, or remind you that the great Arnold Schwarzenegger has admitted more than once that the biggest help he ever had was a training partner. If even Arnie can benefit from it, so can we!

  • You will be surprised to see how being a part of a team will make you twice as focused and determined to reach your goal. 
  • You will give support when needed, but you will also receive when YOU need it the most.  
  • You will learn from the experience of your teammate.
  • You will get another person’s perspective on what you do. While you shouldn’t take everybody’s advice, it is still good to try to learn from each other- remember that everyone has his strengths and weaknesses and that you don’t know everything!
  • You will draw energy from what the other person does, for example if you are not feeling like training, but your partner calls you and tells you his sweating hard at the gym, chances are that you’ll be doing the same in a matter of minutes! 
  • Your partner will always be there to push you through the hard times, and cheer you when you reach one goal after another. And you might not admit this, but having someone the cheer your success is a huge boost to your motivation! 
  • Knowing that the success of your team, depends on how good you perform will motivate you to always push as hard as you possibly can. 
  • If you are lucky enough to team up with someone more experienced than you, you will skip many of the hiccups that occur every time people start something new. 
  • Sharing your journey with other people makes it fun and interesting- something you actually look forward to. 

So from these benefits we can say that there are 5 major things that having a partner will give you- accountability, motivation, fun, knowledge and resiliency.

  • Always look for people that share your goals 
  • Try finding someone with experience and success behind him
  • Find a person who you can connect with on more than one level
  • Look for really motivated people as they can help you keep your commitment
  • Look for a person who will always encourage you 
  • Choose teammates that are not afraid to kick your butt when you are making excuses
  • Devise challenge strategies as a group
  • Find a person with a positive personality
  • Make sure you are on the same page in terms of goals and what it takes to reach those goals
  • Start looking for teammates early, instead of leaving it for the last minute

Burn The Fat Inner Circle 1 Million Steps Challenge

Today I want to let you know about something that gets me very excited ! Today- June 6th 2013 is the day that gives the start of the 1 Million steps challenge.

What is the challenge?

Tom Venuto, author of my favorite fat loss book - Burn The Fat, Feed The Muscle, has decided to launch yet another challenge in his burn the fat inner circle. According to him very a important reason for the high obesity levels among the American population is the fact the average person takes as few as 5000 steps a day (I know that it may sound a lot at first, but it's not!). This is due to the couch/desk potato lifestyle of today- most people get up in the morning and hop in their car, reach their work places and sit for the entire day behind their desk, then they hop in the car again and go back home only to spend the rest of their day in front of the TV.

SO the challenge is- walk 10 204 steps for the next 98 days (it equals 1 mil.)!

10 000 is not just a random number, it is the mark at which health and fitness authorities consider a person
"very active".

As always Tom's challenges are great because they involve a lot of people (inner circle members), who keep each other motivated and give a lot of support- it is a true fat loss community at it's best!

Why would you take such a challenge?

It has much more benefits that you would suspect! This challenge will not only improve your shape and overall health, but it will build a lot of character simply because it takes persistence and determination to stick to a "very active" lifestyle for 98 straight days! Being involved with it for such a long period will build an incredible momentum which will take you to the next level of fitness and health.

What Is Cellulite And What Causes It?

Of all of the body issues women face, cellulite is one of the most common, as well as one of the most annoying to deal with.

What Exactly Is Cellulite?

Cellulite refers to dimpled and rippled flesh most commonly found on the abdominal region, buttocks, and thighs, although it can be found anywhere with significant fat deposits. Most adult women, as high as 80-90%, will experience cellulite at some point in their lives, usually after puberty, while it is rarely found in men.

The severity of the condition can vary greatly from mild dimpling to severe rippling, commonly referred to as "cottage cheese."

As so many women experience or will experience cellulite, it is usually thought of as simply a normal fact of life, although it is considered unsightly and many treatments have emerged seeking to cure the condition or at least improve its appearance.

What Causes Cellulite?

Cellulite is caused when subcutaneous fat and water deposits burst through the connective tissue that typically provides structure to the region, causing small pockets of fat to protrude and cause an uneven texture and appearance to the skin. This can happen due to several factors.

  • As cellulite is most often seen in women, it is believed that hormones like estrogen are responsi­ble for the appearance of cellulite. Estrogen causes weakening of the connective tissues like collagen that normally provide good support for the muscles, fat, and skin. 
  • There is also a genetic component to cellulite. Certain genes have been identified that predispose individuals to the condition. 
  • Obesity
  • Toxin buildup
  • Exess water retention
  • High levels of stress
  • Excess dieting and the so called Yo-Yo dieting effect
  • Race
  • The particular distribution of fat on an individual can also determine if he/she will develop cellulite and how severe it is. Deep pockets of fat are more likely to show the herniation of subcutaneous fat that leads to cellulite than areas that are relatively lean. 
  • Age can also exacerbate the condition, as people naturally lose connective tissue as they age, and what remains loses elasticity as well.

What Can Be Done?

Cellulite is often considered unsightly and its appearance is usually bemoaned. Women with the condition often go to great lengths to hide it, which can cause a serious impact on lifestyle as trips to the beach or pool or even wearing shorts or skirts in summer can pose a challenge. In response to the huge demand, products designed to treat or improve the appearance of cellulite have been on the market for decades. Unfortunately, many of the treatments have shown very unconvincing results or truth to be told are scams.

There are several surgical treatments available to curb cellulite. Mesotherapy, in which a multitude of injections of vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and enzymes are injected into areas affected by cellulite, has been shown to break up fat deposits and can lead to a slight improvement in cellulite. Various laser therapies are being tested now that are designed to melt subcutaneous fat and strengthen the fibrous connective tissue in affected areas, and are showing much promise.

However, the essentials of treating cellulite at home include a healthy diet, specific exercises which both target the affected areas and are overall good fat burners, and optionally you can add a natural cellulite cream for faster results. I personally believe that taking these 3 steps is far better than any surgical treatments. 5 Cellulite Reducing Exercises

We all know that there are different factors contributing to cellulite. The fact is that even skinny people have it, which is supposed to make it more of a skin condition, than a matter of physical conditioning right? Wrong!

The fact is that cellulite is fat, a little different than the other fat deposits in your body, but still FAT. And if I ask you right now- What are the two major ways to get rid of fat? I am sure you would answer "proper diet and exercising". Although, there are other effective methods for dealing with cellulite like certain herbs and natural creams, still the most effective methods are eating the right foods in the right time and doing the right amount of the right exercises. In this post we are going to focus on 5 cellulite reducing exercises that will get you ready for your summer bikini!

1.  Around The Clock Lunges

Your goal is to perform 3 sets of 15 reps if you are able to. As with any other exercises in this list, you should build your strength and stamina at your own pace. There is nothing worse to your motivation than setting unrealistic goals from the get go- remember- baby steps!

This exercise will work your thighs, quads, glutes and hamstrings. To perform a clock lunge you need to start by doing a lung to the front with your right foot, then to the right, then to the back and finally a lunge to the left. Got it? Haha, I know this wasn't much of an explanation and thats why I've posted a video for you that will make it much clearer.




2. Goblet Squats

Again your long term aim is 3 sets of 15

This exercise targets many muscle groups, among which the quads, thighs, glutes and hamstrings. To perform a goblet squat you have to hold a heavy object to your chest and squat... for the moms out there- your kids might do in the beginning! Although the exercises is pretty straightforward, I've prepared a video for it


3.  Single Leg Romanian Deadlifts

3 sets of 15 reps

Here you perform a straight leg deadlift, only this time you do it with one leg in the air. The targeted muscle groups are the hamstrings. Have a look at the video.



4. Single Leg Supine Hip Extension

Your aim is 3 sets of 15 reps

You perform this glute exercise by laying on your back with your arms to the sides. Keeping your left leg straight and your right knee bent, rise the left leg a few inches... you know what, let's go straight to the video



5. Burpees

3 sets of 12

The last exercises on our list is a full body ultimate calorie burner. Its a great combination of a jump, squat and push-up. Here is the video


These 5 basic exercises alone will not get rid of cellulite for you, however they are a vital part of the process.

  • Insomnia usually happens when you are under a lot of stress
  • Not physically, mentally or emotionally well

  • Not in a comfortable environment
  • have travelled to a new place, etc.
  • Have too many things on your mind. Sometimes even I find my thoughts running around in my mind, not letting me to fall a sleep.
