Healthy Fat Loss Recipes

Many people would like to live healthy lives but fail to inculcate eating habits that would help them achieve desired results. As much as you can make the gym your daily friend, the food you consume plays the biggest role in determining your wellness. You should therefore be conscious of the nutritional value of your breakfast, lunch and dinner.

If you are trying to cut weight, skipping meals is not a healthy option. Instead, look for fat loss recipes that will help you prepare balanced meals, low in fat, yet with enough calories for energy. Cooking styles can also affect the nutritional value of your food.Here are tips for a healthy diet that takes only a few minutes to prepare; that is if you lead a busy lifestyle:


Breakfast

Almond pancakes for one person

Ingredients: A cup of raspberries, half cup egg whites, quarter cup almond flour, a tablespoon of coconut oil.
You will mix the almond flour and egg, while heating oil in a skillet. Add half of the mixture into the skillet and let it cook till it browns around the edges. Flip it over and follow same process. Do the same with the remaining half. Make a sandwich with the raspberries and it is ready to serve.

This meal gives you 415 calories, 15.5g of proteins, 29.9g of fats and 13g of carbs.


Lunch for four people

Fried turnips, raisins, apples and bacon

Ingredients: Quarter cup of raisins, cinnamon, coconut oil, stevia, 3 large turnips, 2 slices of bacon sliced, a large tart, two apples (one tart and one sweet, both diced).

Heat the coconut oil for some few seconds in a heavy skillet, and then add thepeeled and diced turnips and the apples simultaneously. Sprinkle some cinnamon to your taste. Cook under cover till the contents soften. Then add bacon and the raisins. Cook till they start turning brown, carefully turning them with a spatula. When completely brown, put off the heat then add stevia to your taste.

This meal, as a whole contains 136 calories, 3g of protein, 17g of carbs and 6g of fat.


Dinner for one

Mediterranean rice

Ingredients: Squeezedhalf lemon, salt/pepper, 1/3 avocado, quarter onion, a small can of tuna, 100g of rice.

Boil the rice for about 20 minutes, and then put it into a bowl. Cut the onions in long strips and add to the rice. Add tuna to the rice after draining oil. Cut the avocado into small pieces and add to the rice. Pour in the lemon juice and add some pepper or salt. Enjoy your meal.

This one contains about 600 calories, 32g proteins, 80g carbs, and 15g fats. All the foods are low in chemical content as they are nit stuffed with manufactured ingredients.


These are well balanced meals that take very few minutes to prepare, considering the busy schedules that most people have. The low intake of fats in all the food can easily burn with a non-constraining workout. These recipes are definitely a better alternative to the fast food choices that lead to fatness and obesity. Acid reflux is a condition in which the stomach contents rises back (refluxes) into the esophagus. Acid reflux occurs due to a fault or dysfunctional valve that separates the esophagus from the stomach. At the entry of stomach, it is guarded by a ring of muscle which is called lower esophageal sphincter (LES). In normal individuals, the valve allows food to enter the stomach and then closes. If the sphincter valve is faulty, stomach contents can easily go up the esophagus causing irritation and burning chest pains (heart burn). Chronic acid reflux into the esophagus leads to gastrointestinal reflux disease (GERD).

What are the signs and symptoms of acid reflux disease?

Symptoms of Gastro intestinal reflux disease manifest as a result of irritation of the acidic chime from the stomach. The common symptoms of acid reflux include;

  • Burning chest pains: This is a burning sensation felt originating from the stomach to the lower chest and its due to the acid irritation causing heartburn.
  • Food regurgitation: This is the tendency of bringing swallowed food back in to the mouth
  • Voice hoarseness: This occurs due to irritation of the vocal cords by the acidic reflux
  • Dysphagia and odynophagia: This is difficulty and pain when swallowing foods. This occurs due to inflammation of the lining of the esophagus which is critical in pushing food bolus down (peristalsis)
  • Asthma: Reflux can cause asthmatic symptoms due to the constant irritation in the air passages by the acidic juices.
  • Dental erosion: This occurs in GERD due to chronic reflux of the acidic juice to the mouth. This is commonly observed on the inner side of the maxillary incisors when there is constant contact with the juices.
  • Difficulty in breathing: This is due to seeping of the regurgitated juices in the airways causing irritation and inflammation.
  • Halitosis: A foul smell breath due to the regurgitated substances
  • Nausea and feeling of fullness or bloating

What are the causes of acid reflux disease?



Acid reflux -is technically due to faulty LES valve allowing acidic juices to seep back into esophagus. Too much pressure on the stomach can make the sphincter give way. Some other causes and risk factors of acid reflux disease include;

  • Pregnancy: As the pregnancy progresses to the third trimester the size of the fetus exert pressure on the stomach and can push the contents back up the esophagus. This is relieved by eating smaller meals but it disappears after giving birth.
  • Large meals: Large meals can exert excess back pressure on the LES causing it to give way for the acid reflux. Smaller meals help minimize and solve the problem.
  • Unfavorable body posture after meals: Some body postures after meal can promote pressure on the valve causing a reflux. Some of these postures include bending forward and lying supine after meals.
  • Hiatus hernia: This is a condition where a part of the stomach punches in to the diaphragm and is higher than the valve position. Hiatus hernia causes an automatic reflux due to gravitational pressure. Hiatus hernia is uncommon and can be caused by chronic heavy coughing, vomiting, straining, or pregnancy.
  • Smoking: Tobacco smoking elicits production of acid in the stomach and also weakens the sphincter muscle valve hence a higher risk of acid reflux disease.
  • Certain foods and drinks: Certain foods and drinks can cause acid reflux in people. The common foods include spicy foods, fatty foods, garlic, coffee, tomatoes, vinegar, citrus fruits and alcohol.

Tips For A Healthier Cuisine - Lean Cooking

Lean cooking does not necessarily mean you have to cut out every single ingredient you love; moderation and balance are critical in any diet, and therefore the right preparation is also important when you are looking for healthier meal options. When you are trying to lose weight, get fit, or simply maintain a healthy lifestyle for you and the family, these are a few of the things you can do to make simple, yet healthy and effective changes.

Meat, poultry, other beef 

If you do consume meat, whether it is steak, fish, poultry, or other sources, keep it lean. Choosing a leaner cut of meat, removing the skin, and the right preparation methods are key. If you do eat beef or meat, look for those with the word round or loin attached to them (sirloin), as they generally have the fat trimmed off, and are generally leaner cuts of meat.

Reduce the extras

When it comes to oil, marinades, sweet sauces, and other add ons, keep them to a minimum. If possible, try to make your own sauces and marinades, rather than purchasing prepackaged ones that are full of sugar and other artificial ingredients.

Stir fry 

When it comes to vegetables, stir fry is a great option. You can place them in a pan, wok, or other cooking vessel, and simply blend them with a few herbs and spices. Not only are they tasty, the crisp nature of these vegetables means they retain the nutrients you want to get out of them.

Cook methods

In terms of lean cooking, the right cooking method can go a long way. If you love chicken fried steak, you do not have to eliminate it; instead of deep frying, use alternate cooking methods like pan searing. You can use egg whites and homemade bread crumbs (rather than store bought). By eliminating grease and fatty oils, you can greatly reduce caloric intake. This is not the only dish you can make healthier; when it comes to cooking, choose: roast, sear, broil, bake, as opposed to deep fried or pan fry methods.

Oils

You can use oil, but go with olive oil, and try to use extra virgin if possible. Coconut oil is also a great choice; but, even with healthy oils, you have to limit them. Anything, even the best foods, are no longer good for you if you are consuming too much. In lieu of oil, you can also use cooking sprays, or simply use a wok filled with water for broiling certain dishes.

Consume greens, fresh fruits, get rid of processed and refined foods. These are some simple solutions that you can take with you in to the kitchen, when you are trying to make healthier meals. Lean cooking does not mean you have to get rid of things you love, but you do have to keep moderation and balance in mind. And, a few simple changes in the kitchen can go a long way to healthier meals, fewer calories, and healthy changes you want to make.

7 Reasons Low Calorie Diets Simply Don't Work

In a book I recently read and am very enthusiastic about (as I told you in my burn the fat, feed the muscle- what an amazing book post) there was an interesting chapter explaining why 95% of all conventional diets fail. Do yourself and your body a big favor and read the entire post- at the end you will be relieved to find out that starving will not get you anywhere near the body of your dreams.

There are quite a few very interesting reasons for that, according to the author Tom Venuto, however, I am just going to synthesize the top 7 reasons why you need to stay away from low calorie diets.

1. A low calorie diet will slow down your metabolism

This happens because your body has the incredible ability to adapt to almost anything. So when you start feeding it with less calories than your daily needs require, it just says "Hey, I better find a way to keep my fats, cause it seems like we are going through some rough times! I better slow that metabolic rate a little!" Your body doesn't know that you are deliberately dieting. What it knows is that it is getting insufficient fuel and in order to survive it will have to start using less fuel.

This explains why most low calorie diets work in the start, but in the long term tend to be useless, and also it explains the so called Yo-Yo effect- while you are dieting you lose some weight, but your metabolism slows down, so when you go back to your old eating habits, you do it with a weaker ability to burn fat- thus you gain again.

2. A low calorie diet will make you lose muscle

This is partially because the more muscle you have, the faster your metabolic rate is, and as I pointed out, your body is trying to decrease this rate. However, there is another reason for the loss of muscle tissue and it is called Gluconeogenesis- the process of converting lean muscle tissue into glucose. This is a way for your body to produce the energy that you have deprived it from, with your low calorie diet. An interesting fact is that it affects all of your muscles including internal organs. And as you probably know- your heart is also a muscle. This means that a low calorie diet will make your heart weaker as well.

3. A low calorie diet will decrease the activity of your fat burning enzymes and increase activity of your fat-storing enzymes 

Once again, your body's incredible ways of adapting. Besides slowing down your metabolism and feeding on your muscle tissue, the body also increases the levels of a fat storing enzyme known as Lipoprotein Lipase (LPL). It also decreases the levels of your fat burning enzymes.

4. A low calorie diet will decrease the output of your thyroid hormone

A low calorie diet and starving lead to a lesser production of thyroid hormone, which additionally slows down your metabolism.

Also, studies show that low levels of thyroid hormone can be associated with atherosclerosis and cardiovascular disease, which doesn't have much to do with weight loss, but it still shows how harmful a low calorie diet can be.

5. A low calorie diet will increase the chances of rebound weight gain

This is basically what I mentioned in the first point. Once your metabolic rate gets too slow for you to keep losing weight, you will hit a plateau. Now that is really frustrating! After a period of frustration and starvation, people will normally either go back to their previous eating habits or binge. After doing this, it will take a very short period for all of the lost weight to come back, leaving you with the same amounts of fat as when you started (or even more), less muscle tissue, slower metabolic rate, weaker general health and potentially depressed.


6. A low calorie diet will increase your appetite and cravings

Your mind also has a way of responding to low calorie diets. It makes you crave all of those high energy foods you are trying to avoid. And when the mind of a person is really set on something, it is hard to resist, actually most of us can't!

7. A low calorie diet will decrease your energy levels

Energy levels largely depend on your metabolic rate and calorie intake. If both of them are dramatically decreased, the same will happen with your energy. Furthermore, starving will also lead to a lower output of hormones that are critical for your mood and energy. This will not only make you feel lethargic and lousy, but it will hinder your ability to burn fat, which is the proper way to lose weight.


These are the 7 reasons why low calorie diets simply don't work. In fact, a low calorie diet will have you sacrifice your health, energy, metabolism, muscle tissue and much more in order to lose some weight in the short run and get even worse in the long run. Do you really feel that this is a fair deal? I don't!

Discover What Exactley The Famous Paleo Diet Is

Many of you have probably heard of the Caveman or the Stone age diets, right? These are other names for the Paleo diet. It's called this way because it's based on our stone age ancestor's lifestyle and eating habits. Why would someone live like a caveman? Well according to the Paleo diet proponents, there has never been a fat caveman!

I don't know if that's actually true, but never the less, there is science behind this diet and it does seem to work. So let's have a look at the science behind it, shall we?

The cornerstone of the Paleo diet is the belief that the human race has not adopted to certain foods, which have recently found their way into our lives. This means that we should only eat what our ancestors had at their disposal, mainly- animals, eggs, fish, shellfish, vegetables, herbs, fruits, roots, seeds and tree nuts. And the foods that should be avoided are grains (even whole grains), legumes (I don't recommend avoiding legumes, in fact I believe them to be a superfood!), dairy, potatoes, processed oils, refined sugar and any other food which came into our diet after the development of agriculture.

Now the main argument is not that these foods have a very poor nutritional value, in fact most of them have an amazing value, however, because the human organism isn't fully adopted to digesting them, they cause a cellular inflammation, a flood of bad hormones and a bunch of diseases and conditions including type 2 diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular diseases and others. An interesting point is that after the introduction of these foods the rates of obesity have skyrocketed.

So if you are wondering how to incorporate the Paleo diet into your everyday life, I have found an example of a Paleo day so to say (fortunately it doesn't include running from a saber tooth!)

  • Breakfast- Scrambled (in olive oil) Omega 3 or free ranging eggs with a fresh fruit and a cup of green tea
  • Snack- A serving of a lean meet (like beef or chicken) and fresh fruits
  • Lunch- Caesar salad with grilled chicken breast and a healthy dressing like olive oil and lemon, and another green tea (green tea is recommended due it's weight loss properties, however, if you don't fancy that much caffeine you can go with a different herbal tea)
  • Snack- Here you can get a serving of fruits and nuts/seeds like apples and raw almonds or chia seeds for example
  • Dinner- In order to keep your sanity, you can include something that wasn't actually available to our ancestors, but you really like and is still at least kind of healthy (this is allowed up to 3 times a week). In our example this will be a glass of wine. So for dinner you will get all of it- veggies, nuts, lean meat and fruits- For the veggies part, you can go with steamed broccoli, tomatoes, carrots and artichoke. For the meats, you can choose from chicken or turkey breast, beef, fish and game. As for the nuts/ seeds, considering you had either almonds or chia seeds as your snack, you can go with raw walnuts now (variety is a must). And for our favorite part- dessert, you can have a bowl of blueberries, strawberries, grapes or raisins.
