Here I have 6 of the most common questions in bodybuilding answered.I like to call it a bodybuilder`s FAQ.
1.My work out is too boring,how can I make it more exciting?
The key is in experimenting.Change the intensity,the amount of reps,the wights,the amount of rest time,the way you warm up (try new stretching methods,if the gym has a punch bag use it its always fun),give your self a day off the gym and the other healthy activities like yoga or swimming. Whatever you do keep it fresh and try to surprise your muscles!
2.Ive heard contrary opinions about aerobics.What should I really do?
If your goal is to have big lean muscles,with well toned abs you should do aerobics 3 times a week around 20-30 minutes.If you train intensively enough,with a good rep number, rest no more than 45 sec and have a proper nutrition plan 20-30 mins should be absolutely enough.
3.With my budget I cant afford much of the high cost supplements.What will you recommend me?
For a really low budget I recommend whey protein powder.
Protein is the most important nutrient for muscle growth. If you want to read more about it, check out my article on protein.
Because of its importance I recommend that if you have to choose just one supplement it should be whey protein. The one I use is the Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard 100% Whey Protein. It has a pretty good low carb formula which will keep your muscles lean and it also tastes great!
4.Which is more important for the bodybuilders work out?Bigger weights or intensity?
Intensity comes first,along with a perfect movement.Big weights are for power lifters.your workout should have perfect movement,10 or 12 reps for each set and a 45 secs resting period between sets.If you cant handle that,use lower weights.
5.A couple of guys in the gym use steroids.What are the risks?
Steroids are evil!Haha,really they are.If you are using them,instead of going to the gym to improve your health you will only make things worst.The adverse hormonal effects are well known, but there are also other serious side effects of anabolic steroids on the heart, liver, musculoskeletal system, and the brain.So steroids arent the way to go,plus the feeling of making muscles without drugs is far superior!
6.I want to gain muscles,how should I eat?
Big muscles need protein,around 1,5-2,5 grams(00,4-0,007 oz) per kilo(1 kilo=2.2 lb) of the persons weight.That sure is a hard to get amount,so you better get back to question number 3.
But which foods will best serve your muscle gaining goal ?Well you have to eat lots of egg whites (some people prefer drinking eggs raw),chicken or turkey meet without the skin,fish,low fat milk products and other protein rich foods.To make sure read the table on the package.
The quality of the carbs you take is also of big importance.Best sources are rice, beans, lentils, fruits and fresh vegetables.
